Today Alia and I went to the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, I have been afraid in a way to go afraid of what I might feel. We drove down and said our prayers, it was lovely to see people on the beach and a young couple taking wedding photos. It was quite quiet but we were there early. Then we drove by all the flowers and the memorial garlanded in love and then we were both hit with a deep indescribable sadness.
Moments later we were in the art shop were we all knew each other of old and we laughed and had fun choosing our art materials. Bruno and Charvin and his wife Laurence are always lovely to me and my students.
From the beach and art shop to the mountains, we drove up almost all the way to Saint Martin de Vesubie, but having gone round and round the spaghetti junction in Nice I could not for the life of me work out which way I was going..Finally finally we got to our little moment in paradise, had a nice lunch and asked the waiter how to get down to the Vesubie, so well worth all the struggle, an idyllic spot to paint.
