Off to the Caribbean

It’s a rainy old winters day here in Provence, far too wet to go outside and very toasty inside by the fire. So here I am trying to catch up backwards. Yesterday was February and today is March 2023 of course! It feels like an eternity ago so long ago it can’t possible have happened this year, but it did. I went on holiday to the Caribbean, to Antigua, to see dear friends and have a break, so much has happened since then it actually feels like years ago. Thats sad because I had such a wonderful time. Swimming in the beautiful Caribbean sea, lying in the sun, reading my book, visiting dear friends and of course painting.

A water colour I painted as a thanks to Sarah and Jawa Sebastion for putting up with me at their beautiful home. Where I found peace and quiet, serenity and shared my meals with any little bird that wanted to join me!

Papaya, avocado and fresh lime from Sarah and Jawa’s garden, frequently shared with the locals.

Sally and her husband have a beautiful art gallery and garden on Fig Tree drive, sadly a lot of the tropical forest has been desimated, but their garden thrives and is quite beautiful. Sally is kind enough to let me sit for hours painting, she even gives me lunch, I am so lucky. I would go from Sally’s house to the beach swim and paint and then back home for the sunset listening to the birdies. Bliss

Having spent so many winters in Antigua as a boat chef, it feels quite like home. I love to listen to the tree frogs. When I worked on the boat, the lapping of the sea on the hull and the singing of the frogs could lull me to sleep.

And of course there has to be a walk down memory lane to English Harbour and Admiral’s Inn, up to Shirleys Height and Pigeon Beach. Anitigua I miss you!

April may well be tomorrow.

A bientôt
